Pond CypressTaxodium distichum 'Pond'
Specimen, Screen, Accent, Foundation, Mass IntroductionPond Cypress is a narrow version of the more familiar Bald Cypress. Is is a deciduous conifer capable of reaching 80 feet tall with a narrow habit of 15 foot spread. The branches arise at right angles to the main trunk, creating a very symmetrical form. The needles are held tight to the branchet, giving a kind of rope-like effect, not as soft a look as the Bald Cypress. Pond Cypress is the last tree to leaf out with bright green needles appearing in late April. In October, the needles turn a coppery-orange. Use and ManagementIn a large landscape or park, the narrow, ascending form of the Pond Cypress would make a delightful plant to mass at the edge of water. Pond Cypress has no pest problems, but bagworms and spider mites could attack the tree if conditions were right. Planting
